BUTTON WALL

Button Wall is one of two permanent works (the other is Postcard Journey) that I was commissioned to make for the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital. The entire public art programme comprised of 13 artists, including Dalziel + Scullion and Michael Brennand-Wood. The project was awarded the Saltire Award for Arts in Architecture in 2005. Button Wall is made of 58,500 pearlescent buttons in pink, blue, orange, and three shades of grey that cover a 4m long curved wall in the Hospital. The random patterns of coloured circles echo images of cell patterns found in the body. The pearlescent sparkling wall is inspired by the signature granite buildings of Aberdeen.
