SITE SPECIFIC INSTALLATIONS | AURORA

Aurora is a two-part installation using the windows of a domestic house as screens onto which the ambient light from televisions and sunbeds is projected. The installation took place on a Friday and Saturday night in a suburban house in Liverpool. This light display bears witness to the private goings on behind obscured windows. Friday night television watching habits of tuning in and switching off take place as well as ultra-violet escapism under a surrogate sun. The television light dances and changes colour similar to the northern sky's light display known as the aurora borealis while the UV light transforms the front rooms into glowing beacons of blue-violet coloured light. This project was developed and installed as part of my residency at Liverpool Hope University in 1998.
